Swinging target. For about $35 Sportsmen's Warehouse has one made of self-healing plastic capable of thousands of rounds of 9mm. No chance of ricochet, either.

Yeah, no need to spend big bucks for a good steel target for handguns.
I use one of these, the .44 mag double.
Many rounds with centerfire handguns, no damage yet.

I meant to tell you, a piece of sturdy I-beam works very well if you're shooting handgun ammo.
To make it easier to carry, I drilled/chamfered a couple holes in the cross section and ran a sturdy rope through it. Lots of guys at the range have commented how clever the idea is, and it only cost me about $5 from the scrap yard. The local steel supplier also has scrap I-beams and they'll cut them up for me for a nominal charge.
Of course, you get curious every now and then to see what say...a 30-06 from a Garand will do.
I can verify it will go right through.
BTW be careful with those double spinner targets. I have one, and was shooting the top spinner one day when I heard a weird crunching sound through my electronic muffs. Couple more shots confirmed it was my doing. Come to find out, the lead bullets I was using were fragmenting and being sent skyward at an upward angle, and lead was raining down on the metal roof of the firing line.
