Research: Need a large caliber revolver

You'll probably think I am a goofball but that is the way it goes. I am writing a story (a work of fiction) and I recently changed the time line from current to 1992. My former weapon (The Taurus Casull 454 was not available then, so I need a replacement). The gun must be a revolver, and large caliper... IE 44 or 45. It also must be five shots only. Otherwise I am going to have to change all kinds of things related to this later in the story. Something obscure and with personality preferred.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm... I know S&W made the 5-shot 696 in .44 Special back in the 90s but I don't think they were being made as far back as '92. Someone else can probably tell you if they were.

Some well known custom gunsmiths have been making big bore 5-shot revolvers for years.

Something along the lines of this:

That gun was made more recently, but is an example of what I'm talking about. It would definitely fit your preference for "obscure and with personality".

A picture of this semi-obscure, personality-laden unit.......

The Cassull 454 cal guns were 5 shooters and available then. Much personality, and are large and powerful.

I mean the single action guns actually made by Cassull.

Malamute - there were guns actually made by a company called Casull? This is interesting. Were any of these of the vented barrel variety? What about 454 ammunition. Was it readily available. Or was it something you had to reload yourself.

Were these guns able to handle 45 shells as the Taurus raging bulls are said to as well?

I will see what I can find out about them myself. But if you have any links you want to direct me to that would be great.

Thanks to all of you for your time. I appreciate it.

if I'm remembering correctly, I saw that the ,454 Casull wasnt officially accepted as a factory round until 1998. I'm thinking though before that it was strictly a reloading proposition?
