Required Reading: Thomas Paine

"These are the times, that fry men's hearts."

~USP

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

"I wonder what he would say about the state of affairs now?"

Thomas Paine
Common Sense (1776)

"If there is any true cause of fear respecting independence it is because no plan is yet laid down. Men do not see their way out.] ... [Could the straggling thoughts of individuals be collected, they would frequently form materials for wise and able men to improve to useful matter."

I imagine he might say, 'Get thee to the internet.'

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far away, when the Evil Federation was winning against the Good Guys (us) I kept some of Tom Paine's quotes posted where I could see them every day. I like to think that was vital to keeping us going one day longer until the Bad Guys folded.

A true American hero, and a good man to share a foxhole with.

I read "Common Sense" a couple of months ago. Excellent read. The book I picked up also has 2 other titles "The Rights of Man", and "The Crisis". I haven't read the other 2 yet because I'm to busy reading our texts. I'll get to those over Christmas.
Common Sense is pretty timeless IMO.
