Request for advice on trade

I have a 1962 98% blue Colt Python 357 Mag with a 4" barrel that I never use. My local gunshop has a new 480 Ruger Alaskan that I really want. I am taking the Python in to the gun shop tomorrow to discuss a trade. I would appreciate your opinion on what you think would constitute a fair trade. Thanks.

in the blue book of gun values (25th edition) (last year) Its say's 98% $850
100% 950 Add 10% if NIB condition. I Would ask at least 200 to 300 dollars back to you. Keep it and add to your collection.

Keep the mag

You may want to contact geneinnc who is a member here. Seems he is into his colts. Shoot him a PM and see what he has to offer. Nothing to lose.

In addition to geneinnc...

I would ask dfariswheel's opinion too. For what mine may be worth, I echo those who have said to keep the Python, and find a way to add to your collection.

I hear that!

I had my python up for sale and a buddy said to keep it too. Pics are posted at the for sale or trade threads. Keep it. As they say they are not made any more and if by chance they do go into production in the future the question will be will the quaility be the same?

A 1962 Python is very collectable. Depending on the condition and whether or not the box and papers are also included it will be worth a good premium. Put the Python up for sale and you could probably get enough by selling it outright to purchase the Ruger and have a few $$$ extra to put in your pocket. If you trade it then the dealer will end up with the extra $$$ in his pocket.
Don't rush in on any deal for the Ruger. Take your time and learn what your Python is worth. There are not a lot of 1962 Pythons in great condition on the market and the Ruger you want are rolling off the assembly line right now. You are holding the upper hand in this deal.

NEVER,NEVER trade to a Dealer. No different than trading a car. You get wholesale for your gun against retail for his.

If you have to do it .sell the python your self for aroud $750.00. then go by the ruger . The dealer would be getting one heck of a deal on a stright across trade.

Keep your Python. The Ruger is a run down corn planter and ROUGH compared to a Colt Python. The ammunition is expensive and I suggest you shoot one before buying one. The recoil is impressive and the flames/light flare at night is blinding. I have heard internet rumours of top strap erosion/flame cutting in the Rugers.
