..I don't like the switch of control anymore than anyone else...theres too much at stake and too many enemies of what I consider 'right policies"..
but Bush is masquerading as a conseravtive, and there are/were too phony Republicans(country-club coots and planted party-switchers)...a cleansing is needed with a renewal of correct conservative policies....don't panic but give support to worthwhile candidates and let's beat the libs and lefties out of office next election.....

I don't think Bush is a phony, etc. But I agree, they needed to dump some dead-weight. Maybe they will rise to the challenge.

I don't think Bush is a phony,

Not a phony, a puppet. He will do whatever creates the least turbulence.
With one veto in six years, I'm not counting on him to stand up for RKBA. I'm just hoping the dems have their heads on straight enough to leave it alone.

All we can hope for is for the dems to try and play it between the 35 yard lines like we have for the last few years. Luckily if they go for the end zone Bush can veto.

A number of Republicans-Foley, Sherwood, Weldon-had ethical or legal problerms. And many of the Blue Dogs are really DINOs.

I do agree with the fact the Republicans got whipped because they forgot the guiding principles of the Party.

Now the trick is to remember as Citizens that we are the ones that need to correct this problem, by remembering our position in this situation, we can cry, bellyache, moan, or step up to the plate and take a hard look at what and who is serving in the congress, that are making the decisions we are going to be held to live by.

As US Citizens, we have become so used to the nanny state of things, that we are willing to sit back and allow our elected officials to dictate to us, what we need and then make us beholding to the fact that we got it, enough, is enough, we must return our Government back to the Republic form of Government, our founding fathers gave us, and be mindful of a democracy at the same time, but never loose sight of the fact that if a Democracy becomes the form of Government totally, it will, as history has proven out, fall and be replaced by a Dictatorship.

All we have to do is to remove any Government official that is not doing our business and replace them with a person that will do the business of the people, if this means getting rid of the older people that have been in office for a long time good. A fresh idea just might be what we need, too many in office are under the impression that they should keep holding the office because they have had it for a long time, maybe a term limit on the office would be a good idea then the people won’t feel bad about them being replaced. And if they were a good Official after one termout they could be re-elected back in office, but not become another permanent fixture.

Basically what I am saying is we have to stop sitting back and letting the Government run our lives they are supposed to be doing the job according to the things we allow them to do, by permission, not what they tell us we are going to do. Just remember it is us not them that are responsible for the state of the Government.

A lot of speechifying that the GOP lost because Bush gave up his conservative values. That is certainly true.

However, there is a lot of folks ignoring that he and his cronies mishandled the Iraq situation.

Maybe some ol' conservatives didn't think he was tough enough on their social causes. However, I'll bet the major cause of the losses was Iraq.

I believe we're gonna learn a very hard lesson soon.

I think the Dems will treat this as a mandate. It wasn't: it was a response to, frankly, an administration that was stupid as a dog. W forsook virtually every conservative principle that got him elected originally. So I think we'll get a lot of nanny state laws and we'll throw the borders open and we'll abandon all standards. Because I don't think W will choose to fight.

Then the Islamic Fascists will really whack us.

The only question then is, how hard and whether our response will be appropriate (ie: violent retaliation) or whether we'll adopt the French method (ie: whining and beggin).

I agree with much of what has been said here. This election was not a mandate for Liberalism (although the left will try to spin it that way) nor was it a protest against lack of Conservativism (although the right will try to spin it that way).
This was merely '94 redux. It was a mandate against incompetence, unresponsiveness, cronyism, hubris....it was a mandate for walking the talk.

This is the single most opportune time to be a Republican. We're already into the next election cycle and the Republican party needs guidance. For the first time in 6 years, they're ready to listen. Time to roll up your sleeves and get involved. You'll probably never get another chance like this.

I agree 100% and if our voice isn't heard there's a very good chance the Republican party will draw all the wrong conclusions. Schwarzenegger is already touting his way as the way to proceed and he virtually adopted the Democrat's agenda to get re-elected. If Republicans accept that then conservatives will be left in the cold. Speak now or forever hold your peace as the preacher says.
