Republic Arms Patriot; HS2000?

Anyone have any experience with the Republic Arms Patriot 45? Price is right, but trigger pull is heavy and lacks smoothness. Can the action be smoothed up and lightened?

Also, what's your opinion on the HS2000? I thought it was a Glock when I saw it! Has a nice trigger-feel, is relatively compact, and has a grip-safety ala 1911 in addition to the trigger-safety ala Glock.

Sambonator,
I don't have any experience with the Republic Arms, but the HS2000 is a fantastic pistol. I've had mine since March, and it's fast becoming my all time favorite. Recoil is very tame, and it tends to be at least as accurate as the twice as expensive Glock. Keep in mind that, unlike the Glock, the HS2000 is a stricker fired, Single Action Only pistol. That's one reason why the trigger feels so good.

Since it's newly introduced in the US, only 10 round factory mags are available. But, you can modify a large number of 15 round preban mags to fit (Smith 5900, PT92, 92FS, TZ-99, etc.).

For more information, visit HS2000 Talk.

Keep in mind that some Glock folk like to bad mouth this pistol, but those who own them, shower them with praise.

Gusgus is right on the money,I`ve had my HS 2000 since last march also,Cost $300.00 out the door, put over 800 rds through it without any problems at all, easy to shoot, accurate, just feels great to hold.Great pistol for the money, should also be coming out with the 40 s&w soon.

hksigwalther,
The actions are different. The Glock is not fully cocked, so it is not a true SA only pistol. Pulling the trigger finishes the last 1/3 or so of the movement of the action, before releasing the stricker. The HS's action is fully cocked, so the trigger is only releasing the stricker. I know it's only a slight difference, but it's a difference none the less. ;)

Semantics. Both the Glock and HS2000 are striker fired. They differ in TRIGGER mechanisms. Waitin' for the .357sig HS to come out.:)

Republic Arms Patriot

I have one in my pocket right now. I fired it this morning--right on target from seven yards despite double action trigger. Seven rounds of 45 ACP in a compact 20 oz. package. I paid less than $250 plus tax. You should get one!

Thanks for clearing that up Gus. I only had the opportunity to shoot an HS2000 owned by a fellow TFLer but never had the chance to see one apart.

Yes the 2000 was very accurate when I took my time and had decided to buy one after shooting it. Never knew they were that different from the Glock (besides the grip safety). Still waiting for a good gun show to get one as the price at the local shop I go to is $380.

I haven't seen a republic arms .45 but I have the HS 2000. I've put about 1000 rounds through it so far with out a hiccup. It is accurate, and fits my hand well. The trigger really surprised me too because it breaks very cleanly. Nice gun and it was a bargain. Mark

I have a Patriot 45 and I have been shooting 460 Rowland +P+ loads in the little 20 ounce gun.
I made a 42 pound triple recoil spring assembly.
The gun has very good chamber support [that is why I bought it for the project].

They are like Kel-Teks: nothing else has the same performance to wieght ratio.
