All these reports are from the new republic board. Thought they'd be easier to find here.

Hello from New Mexico!!!

The following is the New Mexico Chapter of FR/TRT's report on the counter march in Santa Fe.

We pulled into the Capitol parking lot at around 10am this morning. There were already around 50 morons out and about. The smoke from the Los Alamos fires laid a haze across the entire town of Santa Fe, adding a somewhat sobering feeling to our counter march.

I made sure to park right where we would have to walk through the main Moron staging area. We unloaded our signs and the American flag we brought along, and started walking. It felt good. We walked into the main area where the stage was, and immediately began hearing whispers..."They can't be here while we do this". Undeterred, we kept walking. I was in front, with the flag and my sign that read "Rapists LOVE gun control" and my wife with her sign "Gun Control KILLS Women & Children" and my son "Save a Kid: teach gun safety-it all starts at home" followed CLOSE behind.

We were about halfway through the small crowd when an organizer approached us. She politely thanked us for being there, and asked that we stay in an area which had been set aside for protestors to the march. As it happened, the area they had set aside was right where I wanted to be...about 25 yards from their registration table, and right smack dab on the busiest road in front of the State Capitol. So, without saying anything, we politely obliged. Besides, we didnt want to creat TOO MANY waves - we had a slight logistics problem - no demonstration permit.

No sooner than we got to our spot, than we realized that it just happened to be right across the street from the main event parking lot, so EVERYONE parking in the main lot had to cross the street right in front of us, and see our signs.

It took about 15 minutes for our presence to be really noticed, about the time the march began to pick up momentum. At one point, a woman crossing the street looked at me and asked "What do rapists have to do with this?" I politely replied "We protecting your fundamental right to protect yourself." Another woman had heard this comment and decided to add her two cents. She walked over to me and said :What makes you think I need a gun?" Being that she looked a bit mannish (as did an overwhelming amount of the 'mothers'), I chose not to argue. She then said "I don't need a gun to kick your ass right here and now." Boy, for a bunch of sympathetic, understanding liberals, the crown sure seemed violent.

We went on with our protest and, about 30 minutes into it, had a New Mexico State Trooper pull up right in front of us with his lites on. He stopped, and we kept up the protest. A moment later, he noticed us, smiled, and pulled forward to strike up a conversation with one of the Moron organizers. We later found out he was there only to escort the marchers. Whew!

During the protest, a man walking by read our signs, then said "You're wrong. Completely wrong!" I politely asked him to back hi statement up with facts. He replied "A person with a gun is 9 times more likely to commit suicide." I replied "2.5 million people have used a gun to save their lives." I went on, "Over 65 million men MOTHERS and CHILDREN murdered by their own governments after gun control laws were in place."

Beginning to sweat our personal safety, my wife and I drew the kids close and kept on FReeping. About an hour into the FReep, a couple of friendlies showed up. He was on his bike, decorated with signs that read "Dial 911 and die" and "I will NOT register myself or my guns" and "20,000 gun laws on the books, do we really need more?" She was walking, trailing their two children. Her sign had the famous quote "Those that would give up essential freedom for a little security...(you know the one)". We talked, huddled together and kept on going.

During the three hour FReep, we also took advantage of an opportunity to pass out flyers which outlined the need for the 2nd Amendment, and also contained the Free Republic web address. We handed out 150+ of those.

It was a wonderful day, and I am itching to do it again. I wish I could spend a Saturday with the fine folks at the DC Chapter. The only discouraging thing about our New Mexico march was - there were 300+ morons, and only 8 of us (counting the 4 children).

On our way out, I decided to really nail them. Since the march had moved on down the road, we took the opportunity to PLASTER the parking lots with the 2nd Amendment flyers...one, sometimes two, on each car there. Boy, that felt good. I was amazed at the number of gas guzzling, exhaust spewing SUV's parked in the lots, all belonging to LIBERALS. Algore better be careful about what he says.
