Same story, I emailed him urging opposition to these two bills, and this is the reply.
He'll be getting a phone call and handwritten letter when the veto deadline gets closer.

Thank you for emailing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger regarding AB 352 and SB 357. The Governor appreciates you voicing your opinions on proposed legislation affecting our State.

The Governor does not take a position on legislation until a final bill has reached his desk. The Legislature has until September 9, 2005 to pass legislation and the Governor has until October 9, 2005 to sign or veto proposed bills. Should the Governor take action on this bill, the Governor's Office will notify you at that time.

You may continue to follow this and any other bill before the State Legislature at the Official California Legislative Website: www.leginfo.ca.gov. You may also read any legislative messages from the Governor at his website: www.governor.ca.gov.

Again, the Governor appreciates your interest in California's future. An informed and engaged citizenry is important to effective government in our State.

Sincerely,

Office of Constituent Affairs

In one way, it's responsible, because you don't want to support something good that will make everyone want to pile pork-barrel amendments on it because you plan to sign it. However, it doesn't give you much time to write and make calls, does it?

He's hoping by that time enough people will have voiced thier opinions that he can tell which winds to follow?

Seriously, can't blame him - for as much complaint and communication his office must field over such in Kali - to do otherwise would take an awful lotta time. This way all he's gotta do is save addresses and send out a form letter telling everyone who won...

What the others have posted after my post makes sense. I know that the dems in California are highly pissed that Arnold took the office away from their "dream child" and that if he took any stance on a bill then the dems would be all over it like fly's on scum.

He also knows that if he is to have any future in the Republican Party, he cannot sign these bills without invoking the enmity of the NRA and conservatives everywhere. I think he's going to consider a Senate run.
