Savage
Sir;
Savage 110 series rifles are real "sleepers." With the simple barrel change you also have the "floating" bolt head (which can be changed as well) which means that you almost always (I'll say "always") perfectly bear on both lugs and at about 100%!
Savage rifles have been used as test rifles by many gun writers. The appearance of the so called, "nut" isn't at all bad, and many fine looking Savage rifles are produced. Savage, like Mossberg used to be, gives you more for your money than any other quality rifle in my opinion.
But, of all, thanks be to Mauser for his 98 concept - even Remington, with their 798 are using the 1898 concept still today! Why can't we, in America, manufactutre a good 98 copy with modern steels? When you really look at the machining on the 98 it kind of tells you why.
But, as good as the Germans were and as fine a heat treatment the Japs had - you know, we beat both of them! Praise our G.Is.
