Replacing an old rifle

I currently have a Lee Enfield 303 Brit (rather well used by past owners, Australian training rifle).

But it is getting really hard to find factory ammo for it around my area. I dont re-load yet and even the brass is getting hard to find.

So I am trying to think of something to replace it as a hunting rifle.

I like the 308 and 30-06.

What I like about the Enfield is that because I shoot lefty with a sling hold I can reach around with my left hand to run the bolt.

What modern rifles are available that have open sights that would be good for that?

I am currently looking at a CZ 550 FS in 30-06.

I have no interest in scoping. I had a scope for my 22 and I traded it for tech sights.

The world is your oyster buddy. As you no doubt noticed there are scads of rifles that fit your bill.

The CZ you mentioned is more than good enough and it's darn pretty to.

It was just the open sights that can be used as a primary that I am having a little trouble finding with out it being an unseemly large caliber (458 Lott or something).

I have seen those, I looked at the reviews for the brass and it does not look to promising and the factory ammo is $1.50 a shot plus the cost of shipping ammo.
When I see 300 Win Mag cheaper something is going to change lol.

Have you thought about the ruger gunsite scout rifle. You can get one in left hand and she comes with military type sites. 308 CAL and shes detachable magazine feed. I drool everytime I look at one. Im kinda a open site guy my self

I thought about that one...

But for some reason it did not really grab my eye.

The rail and bird cage on the end make my heart sink...
But that is something I should look more into.

Talking about open sites. I have a remington 700 in 30-06 that I do have a scope on, But I have it mounted on see through rings so I can still use the sites. Scopes will spoil you, and you cant see in low light. Beside I have to hunt what Im aiming at through a scope. I see the deer I aim the rifle at the deer, bang.

You obviously love the old Enfield and there's no reason to change. Find yourself an Ishapore in .308.

Why gey rid of it?

I'm not sure about where you live, but in Illinois (not exactly a gun friendly state) I can have my ammunition delivered right to my house after ordering it online. I'm not to happy with the fact that fedex tends to just leave it on my pourch instead of knocking on the door (I'm sure they would knock if they knew what was in the box).

If ammo supply is your only issue with it, think about saving some money and order online.

Ever looked at a lefty model Ruger 77 in .308? Same cartridge more or less and available in left hand versions...

No rails or bird cage...
