Replacement Springfield Stainless Loaded finally arrives!

Springfield Armory has shipped me a completely new pistol to replace the one whose slide had broken in two, q.v. Broken Springfield Slide thread

It's good of them to provide a completely new replacement, but there are a couple of differences on the new pistol. The barrel appears to be painted black instead of all stainless, the main spring housing is serrated but not checkered, the slide would not come off the frame without a rubber mallet it was so tight, and the inside of the slide and frame are very rough from machine marks. The front sight looks the same as my previous one, namely way too tall causing it to shoot low, and the sear is pretty rough looking, no doubt contributing to the heavy trigger pull. Note, however, that this is before break in, but I'd prefer a much better initial trigger.

I'm taking it to the range this afternooon to break it in and see how it shoots.

All in all it should make a decent shooter after I get a non-MIM matched hammer/sear/disconnector set, replace the barrel, probably replace the two-piece guide rod, and replace the main spring housing with a non-ILS one that is checkered (I hate the idea that I need additional tools to detail strip it with the ILS on the mainspring housing)

I hope its a good shooter for you.
Is the new front sight staked or dove-tailed in? Is the new slide somewhat rounded on the edges or is it still "Sharp" as some call it? Over all - do you feel that you have a "better" gun now, or is it pretty much same same?

The front sight is dovetailed and then staked in. The overall pistol is still very sharp, especially when detail stripping it, there are a lot of razor edges to discover. The pistol seems about the same as the one that broke, but I have yet to see how she shoots.
