I just bought the new Marlin 1897 Cowboy .22 and love it but I do not like the "buckhorn" rear sight. Can anyone recommend a source for replacemnt sights of a more conventional nature? I checked Brownell's and didn't see anything except aperature replacements. Thanks for any help. Stubby

Gunparts Inc., in West Hurley, NY (was the old Numrich Arms Corp) has one of the largest selections of parts available. Their fliers generally depict several sorts of rear sights for rifles, many of appear to be that which you're searching.

Try Williams Gunsights. I replaced the orignal sight on my 9422 with their WDOS (William's Dovetail Open Sights) model many years ago. It looks close to the orginal style but has interchangeable blades that can be had in several styles, heights and notch types. They can tell you which height you will need to use with the original front sight or you can replace it too. For myself, I went with a square notch rear with a white bead front. Works very well.
