Replacement for Taurus PT-145 is ...

Ever since I sold my Taurus PT-145, I've been looking for a suitable replacement for IWB carry without a belt. I've been using my Para-Ordnance C6.45 LDA, which is a great pistol, but it is too heavy if I'm not wearing a belt.

Last week, I ordered a Charles Daly DDA Compact from CDNN Investments without even seeing the gun. It had a 3.5" barrel, so I figured it must be pretty small. When I received it, the thing was a tank. I assumed I must have gotten the full size DDA. As it turns out, I didn't. This gun would not do. No way.

Well, I finally broke down and got a Glock 36. It is light like the PT-145, but the capacity isn't as good. The trigger is better, but there is no thumb safety. This gun will do very well as my no-belt IWB gun.

After all the making fun of the Glock that I have done in the past, I know I'm going to get an earful. :)

good Choice....

Python.....

You and I went round and round over the 145, both here and on e-mail. I went with a Kimber Custom CDP. I recently had the chance to test fire a Glock 36, and like it so much that after the range I bought one. I plan on using this as my "summer gun" and carry gun when I have clothin limitations. Don't worry about catching too much sh&%.....liking 1911's and Glocks doesn't mean you're Bipolar....it means you like quality AND variety. Good shooting.

light weight carry.

I bought a kel-tec 9mm and it is the lightest gun I could find.it carrys great in a krammer teeshirt holster under my left arm.I carry a full mag in the space under the right arm.try it,you will like it.

The G36 is a great gun!
I had a PT-145 and replaced it with a H&K USP 45 Compact. It's a little too big to easily conceal though. The Glock 36 is a great carry gun. The only downside of the Glock 36 is the relatively low capacity.

The P-11 seems like it would be a great carry gun. 10+1 rounds of 9mm, in a small, light weight package. I'm planning to get one very soon. The only problem with the P-11 seems to be that it might take a little work or a trip back to the factory to make it 100% reliable.

Welcome to the Dark Side, my son!! :)
I too chose the G36 as a replacement for my ill-fated PT-145!! It is a good choice. :D

Things I loved about my PT145:
Size, Weight, Accuracy, Big Hole in the barrel

Things I didn't like:
loose rear sight, pins walking out, expensive ammo, frame cracked.

I replaced mine with a Kahr MK9.
Smaller caliber, smaller gun, approx. same wt.
Just as accurate. No cracks.
I love it.
It's cool.

Yeah, I've been trying to ignore the release of the PM9.
I'm afraid though, as people start posting reviews of the gun, I'm going to start getting the itch..... :(

My one concern is going to be recoil. ( I found the KelTec to be unpleasant to shoot.)
I never liked the concept of "carry a lot, shoot a little".

To python1340:
Do a search here on the KelTec. You find lots of pro and con comments.
I found the recoil to be pretty sharp with standard ammo.

Couldn't shoot Speer Lawman +P rounds in mine.
(Jammed every time. My fault.)
That is the only gun/load combination that I have ever limp-wristed.

If you can get used to the trigger pull, and the recoil, word is that newer guns have much better quality control than years past.

The G30 is 1/8" wider than the G36, and holds 10+1. If it's heavier, it's lead, and fairly well balanced lead, at that.

What were you thinking?

Hey python1340,

How you planning on carrying that thing with no belt? I carry my G26 that way using a belly band. Works pretty well with shorts.

Gino- I carry using a clip-on IWB holster. Uncle Mike's or Galco. I recently got the pocket holster that denfoote recommended, but have yet to try it out.

RBK- I already got the G36. I like it quite well so far. I would like the barrel to be shorter and the grip slimmer though. The weight is nice, and the accuracy was fine too.
