Repeal the 2nd Amendment

Oh, the misinformed socialistic dependent minds that exist out there that stir our souls to action. God bless them!

In this day and age, the Second Amendment has become obsolete and dangerous. The militia it was designed to protect no longer exists. The modern version of a "well-regulated militia," the Department of Defense, is more than adequate to protect us from the threat of kings and other despots and dictators. It has provided security to our free State for over 150 years. No organization of private gunmen can possibly supply the amount of security afforded us by the Department of Defense.

I wish these idiots could read better. The Second Ammendment only mentions the militia in determining intent. The idea was that the common man can be armed so when needed in time of war he was already trained sufficiently with firearms.

Of course they think that! Any would-be despot and megalomaniac would call for the repeal of the 2nd.

"DoD is more than adequate to protect us from the threat of kings and other despots and dictators." Uh, heLLO! The DoD is run by whoever is in charge...that includes would-be dictators!

At least they are honest. I'd much rather hear this than "I support the constitutional right of law abiding citizens to own firearms for recreation!"

And there's no way the second will be repealed anytime soon, so they are just wasting their time.

The irony of it all is that when our constitution was written our forefathers already had a "militia" it was the British army!! So obviously the ammendment was not put there so the government could have a government army!! These people also don't believe a person should defend their home against criminals. They don't believe people should have guns at all. Since I am a chick (I am a female) I don't think I would stand much of a chance against a bad guy without my gun, I don't understand the position of other women who are against guns, the great equalizer. Legal or not, I will continue to have firearms, I feel much safer with them in the house!!

Any serious attempt to ratify a repeal would trigger John Ross's nightmare.

Some states would seriously consider bailing out if the Union.

I agree with BTR; at least they're honest about their intentions. I fully support their right to try and repeal the Second Amendment. There's nothing wrong with trying to change the Constitution. A direct assault might actually be just what the doctor ordered to get complacent gun owners off their collective duffs and get motivated to action.

I wish them luck. ;) They'll need it! :)

According to the best Constitutional scholars today, the second Amendent cannot be repealed. There is no precedent, it has never been done. I saw this debate on a late night news show. One of the expert went on to say that the only way he knew to repeal any Amendment to the Constitution was a revolution or a coup-de-tat.

The irony here is that by calling for the 2nd's repeal, the socialists are acknowledging that it does indeed apply to private citizens.

If the "militia" to which the 2nd refers does not exist anymore, and it doesn't apply to private citizens, then how could the 2nd be "dangerous"?

I laugh when I hear the antis wail about repealing the 2nd. From one side of their mouth they insist that it only applies to the national guard (ha!). Then they insist that it must be repealed to save us all.

My, my what the socialists will do to ensure that "the trains run on time".

The statutory law of the land (the United States Code) - today - specifically provides that a citizen's militia does exist, and the citizen's militia was designed to act as a check to the power of the federal standing armies. The bigger the state's army, the more important the militia is - how big is the U.S. military today?

I don't think it will do any good, but you can try to get through to this guy. Here's the E-mail. director@Repealthe2nd.org

His name is Rusty Austin.

As always, be polite.

Robert, not to be sassy or anything, but it's plainly untrue that when it comes to repealing an amendment "There is no precedent, it has never been done..."

What about Prohibition being repealed by the 21st Amendment?

Any part of the Constitution can be amended; main body, Bill of Rights, other amendments.

If you're saying that repeal of the 2nd would not remove your right to keep and bear arms (since it is an "unalienable" right), that's another thing.

This group is half RIGHT!

HCI, the VPC, the MMM, the CPHV, and the NYAGV all say that the Second Amendment doesn't secure people's rights to keep and bear arms.

At least this group acknowledges the Second Amendment and says it secures the people's right to keep and bear arms! That's a step in the right direction.

Therefore, HCI, the MMM, etc. are far worse.

The original Bill of Rights cannot be repealed. These are the basic inaliable rights of our society. They are the foundation of our freedoms and merely acknowledge that these rights already exist without saying.
