Repairing a Speed Feed stock

I have a Rem 870 SF I stock (with the shell carriers in the buttstock) in need of repair. One of the screws that holds the recoil pad in place has stripped the stock. These are like "machine screws" rather than wood screw types. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

you have a couple of ways to go.

Drill and ream the hole at least 2 diameters oversize and bond in a plug of similar material. Drill and retap to the original thread.

Use a threaded insert, like a helicoil, to a larger tap size with the original screw size. If the remaining wall is too thin, this method will not work.

Thanks, 9X45

Both options sound reasonable...there is plenty material around for a helicoil. My question is, where can I get similar material to bond (or SUITABLE material to bond) and tap for the screw, and what would be a good bonding agent if I find similar material...
