Renting some handguns

Well in the next 5 days I am going to be able to go to the range and rent some handguns :D

I am limiting myself to 3 and they have to be in 9x19 or .357 mag and a full frame.

I like these:

Glock 34 (got to try one eventually)
CZ 75B (but I would get the SA version)
Ruger GP-100 (4 or 6 inch), I was thinking the 686 but the price difference to purchase later is just too big

Would there be something that is worthy of a 4th rental?

I just dont seem to get why you would want to different trigger pulls with a DA/SA. But I guess I still want to try it, and I would only really use a DA/SA in SA anyway.

And I used a 1911 (abite not much at all) and I like consistency.

And it is a little different :p

Browning HiPower, maybe? Or how 'bout a cowboy gun, e.g. a Ruger blackhawk in .357mag.

I've been impressed with the GP-100, but if you get a chance to shoot a 686, I'd try it anyway. For one thing, the shootability of any particular gun is subjective, and you may find the 686 feels better.

Also, if you'll actually shoot this gun regularly, the cost of the gun, let alone the cost difference, eventually becomes insignificant compared to all the money you've spent on ammo, especially if you don't reload.

You have a good list and have gotten some good suggestions as well. A couple of favorite brands not on your list are Sig (try a 226 or 228/229) or Smith and Wesson (many like the newer M&P line, I like the older metal framed pistols).

the gp 100 is a wonderful gun. the ones i have seen look as though they have no cylinder barrel gap at all ( close inspection shows they have tiny tiny tiny gap almost not visible to my naked eyes) and shoot disgustingly accurate. if you're just shooting for fun i would see if they have any big guns to shoot. my range has a .44 mag a .454 casull and a s&w 500, i have only shot the 500 as i don't normally rent guns.

I am going to get more calibers down the road (45acp 1911, 45LC, 44 mag for hunting, 454 to go boom, 22lr for plinking, and 40S&W because that's what my friends getting).

At my nearest range there is a flat fee that lets you try any or all of the rental guns. The only kicker is you have to use their ammo.

So what's the purpose of the rental? Just for the fun of it, or are you trying to pick out a gun? If the former, rent a S&W 617. If the later a Sig P220 would be a good choice.

This would like to be something that I would be able to purchase in the "near" future.

It is not a flat rate AND you have to use their ammo.
