Rented an M&P 9 Two Days Ago...

Let me start off by saying I'm a .40 guy because the snap doesn't bother me...kinda makes me feel like I'm shooting a souped up small block engine.

Back to the title. I rented one and was completely blown away by the way that gun handled recoil and muzzle flip. At 12 yards I put about half of the 1st magazine into a 3" group. I MEAN WOW!!! I was blown away so much that I'm now contemplating getting away from my FN pistolas and teplacing them with the M&P. I've got the 9mm Shield and love it. Am I crazy for making a decision like this off of 1 range session?

All the other goodies that are available for aftermarket are nice too but really don't away me one way or the other.

No, you're not crazy. I believe a good percentage of gun owners have done the same thing with various makes and models. For me it was the switch from an XD9 to a CZ 75. When things line up, amazing stuff happens.

It's not a life altering event. Switch if you want to. You can always switch back if you decide you don't like it after all.

You're not at all crazy. The best gun for anyone is the gun you shoot best, works the most reliable for you and you trust most. It has nothing to do with cost or name brand. Not to mention Smith & Wesson is one of the most well recognized names there is in firearms. I am a FN lover myself but I often carry my XD Subcompact because I shoot it well and trust it with my life.

Choose your gun based on your experiences not someone else's opinion. We all have different opinions of "Good Guns". Doesn't make any of us right or wrong. Just means we have different opinions of guns.

You obviously have doubts about this or you wouldn't be asking our advice.
So, it might be best to buy the M&P, but keep the others, at least for awhile, in case you change your mind.

Heck, I can't even count the amount of guns I've bought just because,
"I liked the way it felt in my hand!"
or
"Wow, haven't seen one of those in 30+ years!!"
or
"Hey, the Wifey would love that!"

Guns are like potato chips, you can't just have ONE ;)

I have bought many guns I've liked less than others I've owned after shooting them a while but never regretted buying any gun.

I appreciate the responses. I'm going to go get the 40 tomorrow with some saved gift cards and cash stash.

Worst thing that can happen is I move onto another lust...best thing that happens is I pick up an American made war horse that will serve me well.

I could never understand people that had all Glock collections, or all 1911 collections, or all Sigs, or all HKs, or all Revolvers, etc. I own examples of all of these and its having the variety that keeps it fun & interesting for me!

Hi to all at first becuse it is my first post on this board!

I was something like that as the author of the topic.
I've got CZ 75B which I usually carry and use.
But once I borrowed an SP-01 in 9 mm from my buddy - I've got better grouping at 25 meters and the gun feel me like crazy!

So I decided to buy new SP-01 as my competition pistol - IPSC/IDPA, 3Gun etc.
And I was a little bit dissapointed after first shooting - it wasn't the same as with my friends pistol.

I've shoot eralier with few other SP-01, CZ Phantom, CZ 85, CZ 100, G17, G19, 1911 and many other pistols which I own or my frends did.

So my oppinion and advice to the author is that to try few others M&P becuase they can shoot and feel in other way that this one you've shoot earlier!

Best regards from Poland and sorry for my English if it's that bad as I think it is...

I dig the m&p line. I shoot uspsa production with a 9. I switched from m&p to xdm (both .40) and I eventually came back to m&p. I like em.

God knows I own my share of S&W handguns. I can understand people favoring one manufacturer over another.
3rd gen autos, m&p's, revolvers, yikes!

I bought it earlier today and I'm anxiously waiting to get it to the range. I bought it used and, surprisingly, still had everything they come with new.

Someone stated earlier that they have a variety and I do as well...I have some I love to shoot at the range and some are for self-defense. I like to keep my self-defense consistent.
