Renewed My CCW Yesterday

Didn`t need to as my other one didn`t expire until Dec. I moved to another county and both Sheriffs told me not to bother until it expired. I just decided that the address on my drivers license and permit should be the same. Makes for easier explanations since the SD doesn`t respond to radio runs or do car stops.
Anyway, I had the application filled out and my check in hand. The female civilian told me they had trouble last week with the instant check (sound familiar?) but it went right through. She took my pic and gave me my license. I always check the info, it says all legal firearms, and expires May 15, 1900! I wonder how many permits are out there that expired 100 years ago! A deputy went into the program and made the correction. Still only took about half an hour.

Interesting tidbit: I was one of the first people to get my CCW license when the law first passed here in early 96. It expired Sunday, May 14, 2000. I had not received the renewal application in the mail since I moved and apparently didn't give them my new address. So I took my renewal app, the $85 fee for another 4 years, and my passport photos to the in-person office. I submitted it. The lady said it looked good, but don't carry until you get the new card in the mail. Wait just a minute, I said. First off, when will that be? "I don't know". "Well, it won't be 5 years or even one year, will it?". "No." "So we know it's less than one year" - anyway you see how this went, and finally I got her to say she thought it would probably be about a MONTH - that's right - when I already have a license, have zero changes other than address, zero criminal history, etc. Bureaucrats. Anyway, as I was leaving, I mumbled something like "I'm carrying anyway, new card or not". I didn't feel like explaining to her that a license is an intangible object/right, and is not synonymous with the card that evidences the license, nor did I feel like explaining how it's unconst. to license the RKBA in the first place....

So I have put the receipt showing payment of the renewal fee in my wallet next to my now-expired CCW card, and carry anyway. Would YOU take this risk? I'm at least sticking to a mousegun until I get the new card, then going back to the .45.

And I always thought "Shall Issue" meant just that...

Go back an DEMAND that they issue a replacement, post haste!!! ;)

Of course, not living in a "shall issue" free state, I can only dream of what it would be like ;)

Must be nice, but maybe in November we will have the honor of doing this. :)
