You can do whatever you please, it's your shotgun. As for my opinion and what I do myself is "field strip, clean, lube, verify function, familiarize myself with it and then go shooting". Why would you just "take it straight out of the box and shoot it?" Would you actually fire a weapon without verifying there are no barrel obstructions? Wouldn't you want to confirm everything was in place and lubricated?
For me, to field strip, clean, lube, familiarize and verify function is the responsible thing every gun owner should do.
