Removing the extractor on a Remington Model 58 shotgun

OK, what's the trick?

I have to replace the extractor on my Model 58. It sheared off the last time I went shooting.

I'm trying to get the old one out, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what I need to do to get it free.

Anyone?

Easier than you think. Clamp the bolt in a vise, use a small screwdriver to hold the plunger back, and use tweezers to extract the remaining piece. Be careful as the extractor spring is strong and if you let it slip the plunger will go across the room to little part heaven, never to be seen again. Lube the spring with gun grease while you have it apart. The new extractor will usually snap into place, you may have to push back on the plunger slightly. By the way the 58 uses the same extractor as the 870 and 1100. Here endeth the lesson. Goatwhiskers the Elder

OK, I guess I wasn't clearing the plunger enough. I didn't think there was a pin that had to be driven out, and I sure couldn't see one.

"Here endeth the lesson."

Thanks, Malone!
