Removing/Reversing Safety Button on Benelli M1-S90/Beretta 1201FP3

I can remove all of the other parts from my Beretta 1201's trigger group; however, the safety is driving me nuts. I'm presuming that the pin retaining the safety detent and its spring has to be drifted out. Unfortunately, it just won't budge.

Is there a particular trick for this? (For those not familiar with the Beretta 1201's safety, it is the same as the Benelli M1 Super 90.)

Daniel, I'm not familiar with this gun. But, by your description I'd say you're probably right. The procedure for the Bennelli is:

Hold a fingertip over the hole on the top of the group at the rear to arrest the safety spring and drift the small cross pin at the upper rear TOWARD THE RIGHT until the hole is cleared. Remove the safety spring and plunger upward and push out the safety button toward either side. If the plunger fails to come out with the spring tap the triggger group on the workbench to free it. The other small cross pin at the rear of the group is the limit pin for the trigger. It retains no part and need not be removed. Maybe drifting the pin out to the right is your answer. Thanks George, that was part of the problem. However, the pin was still a bear to drift out the first time. I was begininng to worry that I might damage the alloy trigger housing. Reassembly requires far less force, but depressing the detent spring while replacing the pin is its own nightmare.

Now that I have the new safety button in place (a DMW Oversized Safety), I don't think that I will repeat that task ever again unless absolutely necessary.
