Removing highlighting

Recently I bought a revolver that has what appears to be some sort of paint in the lettering. While it's not unattractive, I'd prefer to remove it and have the gun all blue.
Has anyone had any luck with a paint remover that will not effect the blueing? Of course, I'd rather leave the highlighting than damage the finish.
Thanks for any input.

If you soak it well...

You may be able to use toothpicks the scrape it out...

If that doesn't do it... try a plastic probe of some sort...

Brass is OK, but a last resort. :)

The fastest way, and a SAFE way is to use a solvent-proof toothbrush and a little acetone or lacquer thinner to scrub the lettering out.

Don't use so much solvent that it runs all over the gun, and after the filling is all gone, be sure to dry and apply a good rust proofing lube to protect the metal.

Acetone and lacquer thinner DO NOT harm gun blue or plating, I've used it for many years to clean gun parts and to remove various lettering fillers.
