Removing Front Sight Hood from Marlin 39a

I read an article somewhere that said this is there for protection and easily removed for shooting in the field. I just think I would like to remove it all together. Before I get started I would like to hear from somebody that has actually done this before I try and pry it off and break something. The manual doesn't mention anything about this piece being removable. Thanks for the info.

It's made of spring steel. It's held onto the front sight by spring pressure in a groove on the front sight. Just slide it off toward the muzzle.

B-maxx: Protecting the sight blade is an added benefit of the hood. The primary purpose is to shield the bead from direct sunlight that can and will shift your point of impact.
