removing fore-end "locker" on 870 mm

removed the lock, got another question now.

I will be receving my hogue fore-end for my 870 MM tomorrow, I've got the stock fore-end, bars and all removed, but is there anyway to remove the stock fore-end grip without having the special tool to remove it? I don't want to go to the local shop, they are the kind of people that would charge at least 30 bucks to unscrew the lock and screw it back in. Is it at all possible to use a pair of needle nose pliers to to remove the grip? or anything else?

Some people have had luck with the needle-nosed pliers.
Other people have tried it, slipped, and ruined the thin action bar tube.

A simple spanner tool can be made from a piece of 1/8" steel.
Just cut a piece that will span between the two notches and use a pair of Vise-Grips to turn it.

One poster uses a large wood boring bit that is a close fit.

I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS: One person used his 870's slide as a tool.
He said the bolt slide is a good fit.
If you try this, BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE IT.
 
I got it put on, it took me a whole 5 minutes, from start to finish, using the needle nose trick, thanks for the reply though. The hogue fore-end feels so much better than the stock plastic one.
 
If I order the hogue buttstock, will the mounting holes for the limbsaver recoil pad line-up? or am I better off leaving the rear stock factory? I just want it to match.
 
Either the Hogue comes with a Limbsaver type pad made by Hogue, or you can buy one from Hogue.

I've heard the Hogue is nearly as good as Limbsaver.

You could also email Hogue or Limbsaver and ask if it would fit the Hogue stock.
