Removing brass marks from steel

I am installing some new sights on a pistol and in removing my old rear sight with a brass punch, I missed once or twice and left some brass marks on the slide. Is there an easy way to remove these gold streaks from the stainless slide?

Use some OOOO (4-O) steel wool. Gently

A good copper-removing bore cleaner like Sweet's 7.62 or Barnes will remove it very quickly (just like they do inside a bore).

Be sure to use stainless steel wool on a stainless gun to avoid possable surface rust.

I have found that it is near impossible to not make a mark when using a brass punch on sights. To remove the mark, use a little bit of oil and 0000steel wool. Or use a plastic punch instead!

I know this is after the fact but when I use a brass punch I put a piece of duct tape over the end to avoid the marks.
