Removing barrel assy from 1893 Mauser

I have a model 1893, made in 1894, Mauser that was converted by the Turks in 1935. I am trying to remove the barrel assy so I can clean this up. Where I am hung up is at the muzzle. The stock cap holding the bayonet lug is not cooperating....:confused:

Tried light tapping, it won't budge.

How do I get that to move/remove?

IIRC, the front band on that rifle is held on by the bottom latch, the same one that holds the cleaning rod. Push it in (up if the rifle were held normally) and the front band should come off. (It might be gummed up by old dirt or grease, so you might have to press hard.)

First remove the cleaning rod if present by pressing in on the clip on the bottom of the rear barrel ring. The rear ring is the one that holds the front of the hand guard in place.

Once the cleaning rod is removed press in on the clip on the bottom just behind the bayonet lug. It has a lug on it that snaps into a slot on the inside of that ring. It's a tight fit so a screwdriver may be needed to help pry it off, but be careful not to damage the wood.

Here's a picture, you can see the clip that needs to be depressed right behind the bayonet lug.

Got it, - yep, this old gun had the latch that needed a little nudge. It's a friend's gun I am helping him with cleaning, prepping for sale. Thanks all, and thanks for the link
