Remove berdan primers

Just doing some thinking. I wonder if you were trying to remove berdan primers if you could get one of those air nozzles with the rubber tip and put in the end of the brass and hold brass with other hand and when connected to compressed air from an air compressor, shoot air inside case and wonder if the primers would fly out ?
I don't mess with those cases but it was just a thought.

Probably need a pretty high pressure to blow out a primer, more than any "normal" pneumatic system (air compresses so it would take a lot of pressure/volume.). I've tried, out of curiosity, the water and dowel method and it's slow and messy, and I don't have enough interest to purchase a dedicated Berdan removal tool...

I had read one time to remove them, put water in the case, don't remember ho much. Set a steel rod that just clears the mouth and drive it with a hammer. Claimed the hydrolic action took out the primer. To much trouble for me!

More trouble than it's worth, but the reason water works is because it can't be compressed. Air can.
Like mikld says, it'd take a lot of air pressure and it'd probably create a projectile issue.

Unless there's a source for Berdan primers, there's not much reason to do it.
As mikid referred, there is a pick like removal tool, or you can make one.

I'm sure it'd be possible to rig a system up using a vice and dedicated tools

I don't think holding the nozzle and brass with your hands would work. The air would just escape back out the mouth of the brass easier than blowing out the primer.

I don't think you could get the pressure high enough to remove them. I have tried the water method but it's a mess. What I have settled on is I drill,in my press, a small hole into the spent primer off center as not to hit the anvil. Then put the case in a aluminum reloading tray, primer up, and take a pick and pry it out. Once you get a rhythm going it's not much more that than using a press for boxer cases. I started doing this for some GP11 brass I had, but also use it on 8mm, 7.62x54R and 7.62X39 cases. I stocked up on primers from Powder Valley a long time ago. I should be set for quite awhile.

RCBS sells a berdan primer removal tool, and it works. But hpita. Back in the last great component shortage, was reloading surplus berdan 308. It kept me shooting at reasonable cost and have some Tula primers left for the next time.

I'm thinking of ordering one of those kits. While I do have a pretty good stock of berdan primers sooner or later I'll run out. And whats more fun then ordering new gadgets to play with.

Any air compressor is gonna make maybe 120 psi. That psi is very important as the surface area of a primers face is maybe 1/10th of a square inch, that mean one tenth of 120. So would you think 12 pounds of air would push a primer out? I would hope not.
