• Anything ‘published’ on the web is viewed as intellectual property and, regardless of whether it displays a copyright symbol or not, is therefore copyrighted by the originator. The only exception to this is if there is a “free and unrestricted reuse” statement associated with the work.

    In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

    Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Removal of obsolete "for sale/wanted" ad sections..

Some kind of setup (if technically possible) to allow the poster of an ad to remove or modify it at any time and for any reason. This way only current, accurate and active ads would be displayed, no matter how old.
Anyway, archiving and keeping the ads serves no real purpose, so there's no downside as I see it.

As is, poster can edit ad to show sold, and they can ask Administrator to pull the thread.

Kinda klunky tho since some don't bother to do anything when the item sells.

Actually, archiving the old ads does serve a purpose. It can be used as a reference to determine how much a certain type of firearm or accessory is worth.

If I wanted to buy or sell a Remington 870, I could do a search of the gunshow forums and find out how much other members have asked for or paid for a similar shotgun.

Yes, I had not thought of that. However the downside is that we are still looking at a big pile of ads not really knowing which are active unless we read them. Unless the inactive ads were put in a different refence directory, it's still a bit kludgy for the advertiser and reader alike.

Re: C.R. Sam, the onus is presently on the admins to clean up the obsolete threads, but this is contingent on the goodwill or care of posters. The latter is not easy to solve, unless people start systematically modifying the title of their ads to signal its status.

The problem could be circumvented by systematically moving ads to a different directory ("past or obsolete ads") after a set period of time (maybe this could be done automatically by the system based on the timestamp of the last post on the thread?) unless the thread initiator requests otherwise. That's a bit kludgy too and I can think of a few things that would be a hassle with that.

Oh well, maybe it's a solution in search of a problem :rolleyes:

You have a legitimate observation concerning old/outdated threads, PS5. Your suggestion in one form or another would, no doubt, be implemented if the Gun Show was our main attraction here at TFL.

But, my take on this whole TFL Gun Show set of forums is that they should be considered as if they are a huge community bulletin board hung up and sort-of watched over by Spartacus and others. It is not our intention to be or to become an eBay type of site with regards to the GS. Members are free to post their wares and wants and to remove or edit them (an email/PM to Spartacus may be necessary at times to do these things.)

In other words we don't want to and we don't put a lot of effort into them. They are for the members use and it is the members who have the greatest responsibility in maintaining it.

Understood. And I can see where more new problems could crop up while trying to correct existing deficiencies. It's not a major deal anyway.
