remmington sportsman 58 ?'s

I have heard that you can use 870 barrels on the 58 but the gas ports have to be dilled out. I this true, if so has anyone put a 870 slug barrel on a 58 and how did it work.

It can be done, but it takes a fair amount of expertise to do the gas port right.
