Reminton 870 Receivers

Aside from their stampings, what are the differences between the remington 870 receivers, or are they really just all the same?

I'm trying to figure out if the remington 870 magnum receiver is the same as the the super magnum receiver. Does the super magnum have a larger ejection port to handle 3 1/2" shells or is it the same as the 3" magnum receiver? The bolt on the super magnum is longer than the 3" gun, correct? Something appears to look different between these two receivers.

Bring a tape measure to the dealer. My 870 2 3/4 Receiver is the same length as the 3".

The 3.5 inch models do have a larger ejection port as well as a different bolt.

Do you know if the length of slide rails are longer, thus making the pumping action to cock the gun longer than the 3" guns?

Going through this myself and understand your confusion. Talked to two dealers yesterday and they finally had to admit that they did not know why they are marked as such. Here is what I "Think" I figured out. Understand you are talking about current Express models.

Express Super Magnum; Means that it will take a 3-1/2" shell.
Express Magnum; Means it will take 2-3/4" to 3" shell.
Express; Means that it will take 2-3/4" to 3" shell by catalog discription and the barrel is marked with confusion about a magnum.

Then of course, there is the Express Youth model.

Now here is a kick in the Cheek-Meat; Remember when these came with the three choke tubes? No more and it only comes with an installed Modified tube.
