Remington Viper 522 vs. Ruger 10/22

Is there any contest between them? The 522 has some nice points in terms of handling but I wonder about its durability and reliability. Would any past or present owners chime in please.

i have one of each, i like the stock on the remington more , but it is just not as accurate as my 1022. maybe i ought to cross them and i'd have the perfect 22 auto.

as far as reliability i'd say they are about the same, durability, i haven't had either of them long enough to know. i've had the remington since they came out, and the 1022 about 7 years, both aare holding up well.

When I was still running a gun store we tried carry the Viper, but out of the ten we sold nine of them went back to Remington for one reason or another.

10/22"s have always been good guns, but IMHO the New Remington 597 has been a really good gun for the money and you can find them cheaper than the 10/22.

My 597 will out shoot several Hbar 10/22's the local guys have.

I got a 522 Viper from wife xmas 94 and I sold it at a big discount in 96. Accruacy not bad. Trigger Terrible-Worse than factory 10/22 which I don't like, but is easy to change yourself. Reliability Terrible-I never could load mag. full no matter bullet style or brand, last round troubles too. I had two magazines and had trouble with both, I wasn't going to buy another and try. So I sold it at enough of a loss I didn't feel bad about giving the troubles to someone I knew.

I have a Rem 522 Viper I haven't had any major problems just that when I used hypervelocity ammo it would not feed I think that it was because of the shape of the bullet. Have no experiance with 10/22.

I have a Remington Viper--rusting away in my toolshed. The one I got stuck with is an absolute piece of junk. Shot it a few times, and the plastic lock work self-destructed. What a POS.
