Remington Ultimate Home Defense Shotshells

While browsing around Academy this past Sunday, I saw these on the shelf. I looked around on Remington's website and couldn't find info about them. Even Google results are sparse. Just curious if anyone has any info on them. Regardless, at $25.99 for a box of 10, I think I'll pass.

Take a look at this loading from B&P.

$2.59 a shot? Must be because the box says "ultimate home defense". Show that box to the bad guys and they'll run away. :rolleyes:

I was really wondering why the price was so high for what looked like copper plated turkey loads. I guess it will take a little time for Remington's website to catch up...but I'm curious as to what they have to say for it.
 
Saw the same shells in Bass Pro last Thursday. I don't remember them being that expensive, but they were expensive enough that I passed on the opportunity for testing........

Nothing wrong with the Federal LE12700 shells I've got a ready supply of.....
 
Federal had a 12 gauge load (now discontinued) that was a sorta kinda similar deal... called "Personal Defense".
It was 1.25oz. of #2 birdshot loaded to a listed 1200fps.... except it didn't go 1200fps, more like 1050. Penetration in ballistic gelatin was 6-9 inches.

The link I provided for the B&P load is similar to the Federal discribed, except the shot is a bit bigger (154"), it's 1.5oz, and it averages 1270fps.

Oh yeah, it's .41 cents a shot. :p

Remington still makes similar ammunition, but not that exact round. It isn't Lead shot, it's a Tungsten/Copper/Iron compound, which Remington claims to be 10% denser than Lead. Actually, at 12.0 Grams/CC (from Remington's copy) it's closer to 6% denser. The ultimate? Probably not, but it might be a pretty good one.
