Remington Speed Master Question

Hi Guys,

Could use some serious help. I have a Remington Speed Master, Model 552, .22 cal, semi-auto I purchased maybe in the late 70's or early 80's. I haven't shot a whole lot of rounds through it and always cleaned the bore, trigger mechanism and inside the receiver after shooting. Anyway, I'm about to start shooting it on a regular basis and wanted to completely disassemble it for a proper cleaning. I can NOT get the barrel removed from the receiver to clean the bolt mechanism. I have followed the owners manual disassembly instructions and it seems the barrel is welded to the receiver. I've tried everything I know how to, to get that puppy out. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. P.S. If memory serves, I believe I paid about $175.00 for that gun, and now it seems to list for $500.00? Gun values seem to go up allot over time?

You can do a thorough cleaning job without that step, and that's just what I'd do. I bought my Speedmaster new about the same time, probably 1978. No better functioning, better balanced, more accurate-out-of-the-box .22 rifle anywhere. Whatever else you do, keep it!

I cleaned my 552 a while back the barrel to reciever was very tight,I kept pulling and wiggling the two a part. You might try some gun cleaning solvent inside the chamber as well as outside of the barrel where it goes into the reciever.

Do a search on youtube several Remington 552 videos there

Ya soak it with Kroil over night ,than lube it with CLP or FP10 and your golden .no need to take it apart .
