I just purchased a Rem Spl Fld LT-20,21" barrel, and am trying to find out when it was manufactured. It does not have a barrel code and I cannot find and info on the ser no. I know they were only mfg 1987-1989.My ser number is: R0187xxK. Is this January 1987? Maybe that's too obvious!Any help will be appreciated.
 
Sluggo: Yes, Remington says they do not have information for that block of serial numbers.Which seems to me to be unusual. I'll keep digging.English stock 14 in LOP,21 in barrel,Rem chokes. 1989? Originally Purchased 1993. I have all the original documentation.Would the bar code tell any thing.
 
Great little shotgun, and quite a shooter.

800-243-9700 is Remington's service line. Work through the phone tree and a real live person will tell you stuff about your new shotgun....

Well, The "Special Field" was available in both a Model 1100 auto, AND a Model 870 pump.

Both were introduced with fixed choke 21" bbls - the M1100 in 1983, and the M870 in 1884,

Both were made with Rem Chokes after 1987 - the M100 with a 23" bbl, the M870 still with the 21" bbl (until 1994, when it too became a 23")

The M870 SF was discontinued in 1995
The M1100 SF in 1999.

Sooooo, Since your gun has a 21" bbl - IF your gun is an M1100, it was made between 1983 to 87, and iF an M870 it was made from 1984 to 1987 if a fixed choke, 1987 to 1994 if a Rem choke.

Thanks Petah,In another forum , I've been educated on the Remington serial number code and the barrel code. The barrel code has "DM" indicating 1992. I did not know production went until 1999.
 
I bought with my FFL from a whole saler a 1100 RSF in a 20ga, 21"b and Rem chokes in 1992 for a lady friend, bought my son the same in a 870 in 89 or 90, he sot a lot of 23 and 24's in trap with it mod choke tube, 1oz of 71/2s, many grouse and double on them too and rabbits. I like the 1100 better, 1/4lb and it was in the forearm, had a nicer swing and follow through. I would buy either one again in a heart beat, with a +1 on the 1100 just because of that extra weight in the fore end.
