Remington Sight

I recently came across what I believe is a Remington front sight, possibly for an older 700? It consists of a ramp with a dovetail slot. Also the sight which slides into the dovetail. My problem is I can't get the sight into the dovetail slot, is this directional? It seems somewhere I read about one of the manufacturers, that, lets say from the butt stock end the sight had to be started from right to left? Is this a possibility? I also considered that it may be the wrong sight?

Sights are inserted left to right, removed right to left. You use a sight pusher tool because if the sight is fitted correctly it will fit very tight. Yes, it is possible that you have a sight that has never been fitted to a sight base.
