Remington RM380

Who is excited about this release? I am very wary after the R51 release. This pistol is already in full production according to Remington, so I would assume that extensive testing has been done already. I am not sure I know of another all-steel pistol weighting in less than 13oz. It sounds like it would be a solid shooter. My biggest concern is the DAO trigger, which is fine, but few manufacturers have been able to do the DAO right. The price is on par with polymer pocket pistols, so overall I would say I am definitely interested.

Disappointed that Rem didn't just make the Rohrbaugh with a lower cost due to economy of scale. It was a proven design with a small, but devout, following. Always wanted one, never found one and wouldn't wait for one to be built for me.

But, Yankee Marshal likes the new design: slide lock, better sights and larger beavertail. Yet, he hasn't shot one.

I'd have to wait at least a year for Rem to redeem itself and for this gun to prove reliable.

But yeah, I'm a sucker for .380s; so I'm interested.

ANOTHER dolled-up P-3AT knockoff?

I guess LCP and TCP sales are strong enough that Remington decided they want a piece of the pie too.

Disappointed that Rem didn't just make the Rohrbaugh with a lower cost due to economy of scale.

Rohrbaugh catered to a small group of people who were looking for a package not offered anywhere else. Not too many buyers picked one up on a whim. I think if Remington brought the .380 and 9mm out as they were, the typical gun buyer would have been upset with some of their quirks (if they would even bother to look past the price tag). A recoil spring with a short lifespan is one of those quirks, and not every shooter is able to accurately diagnose failures in firearms. I could imagine more than a few people upset at FTF/FTE's after a few extended range sessions.

Even dropping the price to $700 would make it a tough sell when you look at all of the competition. Options were limited in the early 2000's, but now there are a lot more companies invested in the small CC market.

I am semi-excited at the RM380. For the sake of the brand name (& yes, I know with mergers and acquisitions it's not the Remington of old), I hope it will be a solid design/redesign of the Rohrbaugh. And although I have -and am happy with my KT P3AT - I will likely buy one. After the R51 debacle, I can't imagine Remington letting a similar thing happen again. If they do, they're reputation is shot for decades in the handgun arena (at least the 1911R1 is acceptable).

TH, you're right! It is pretty silly. I figure it'll either be a good pocket carry, or a collector piece like the Colt All American! How can I lose?? LOL

The Remington promo doesn't say the pistol is all steel.
It says "all metal." The gun has an aluminum frame. It says the slide is stainless steel.

After what happened with the R51, I can't imagine buying a Remington product any time soon. I simply do not have faith in their ability to execute.

Everyone keeps saying that they will not buy one because of the R51 debacle. I on the other hand, will buy because of the R51 debacle lol. There is no way they'll let a poor design out after that. And if they do, well I would guess it would take some time for them to dig out of the hole they put themselves in and I'll have a collector piece lol.

I was excited about the R51 when that was announced . . . . how well I remember the "stellar reports" on it by those that reviewed it . . . and then they started making 'em . . . . . no thanks

The RM380? Sorry . . . after the R51 mess . . . I'll stick with what I purchased instead of the R51 - a 9mm Shield . . . I KNOW that one works. If I want a .380 . . . and I am keeping my eyes open for one as I'm all set up to reload .380 . . . it won't be a Remington . . . .

Very odd takedown pin

I can't see how the take down pin placement on this gun can be completely reliable... I'd look into that odd takedown methodology before ever considering purchase... Too many great guns out there with long proven track records.
