Remington-Rand info needed.....

A friend has a 1944 Remington-Rand. I would like to find a correct era magazine or two for him. What are the contract numbers, if any, that I should be looking for? Any sources or leads for these? He was told that this particular gun was issued to the USAR Shooting team and explains why it is blued with walnut stocks. All of the research I came across said parkerized and light brown plastic grips with the '5 in the star'. Please educate me. Thanks.

If it is blued with wood stocks, it was worked over by someone, but absent any documentation I would take the "shooting team" story as just that - a story. Shooting team guns usually had target sights, grips, and a lot of gunsmith work.

You are right on the Parkerizing, and the markings you mention are inside the grips, showing the maker. Any WWII magazine would be correct; they have no contract number, only the makers mark on the top of the floorplate "lip". Since the gun cannot really be "restored" (it has already been polished and blued), I would recommend shooting it and having fun.

Mr. Keenan-Thanks for verifying what I previously found. I also found out that the lip would be marked with either 'G', 'L', 'R', or 'S' for the correct Remington-Rand issue. I don't recall ever seeing any. Are they that hard to come by? I have seen the stocks and will pick some up. It is a shame that someone refinished this fine piece. Thanks again for the help.
