Remington R1 Enhanced (good/bad?)

Anyone have any experience with the Remington R1 Enhanced? I am looking at one and want to hear what others think about them before I jump... :)

Series 80 is the worst part about these guns. Other than that they are good guns. Very well made, good fit & finish on them.

A firing pin block integrated into the trigger system (as virtually all new guns have, but which was not part of the original spec in 1911).
Colt's been using it since 1983, and it's used by three or four other 1911 makers, too.

. . . . and it's a PITA to tear apart and clean. Turns a 10 second job of reinstalling the fire controls into a 5 to 10 minute job depending on your level of skill.

Other manufactures accomplished the same thing with titanium firing pins and heavy firing pin springs, no extra parts required.

Could be worse, it could be a Kimber. Now there is a firing pin block that should never have been, rear sight removal to service . . . junk.

I have one and it's my favorite .45. Very good sights and trigger and great fit and finish. I use mine for competition and I think it gives a lot of value for the money. I found one that was barely used for $650 and for my money it's a great deal.

I have had no problem with my regular R-1.

There has been no reason in my case to do a detailed strip of the pistol. A regular field strip and cleaning/oiling is all I do after firing.

I have a R-1 Enhanced and a R-1 standard. They both are over 1000 rds out the pipe. Have had zero problems with them. The Enhanced is a bit more accurate than the standard , but they both are great shooters.

I've been eyeing the R1 for a long while, but I'd like to have a blend of the two versions...
- Slanted rear slide serrations of the enhanced, but not front serrations.
- The better sights of the enhanced, but not the orange fiber optic front.
- The grips off of the enhanced are nice.
- I'd take the beavertail and hammer off of the enhanced.
- Standard flat floor mags of the standard.

So basically... if it weren't for the front slide serrations and the front sight I'd probably bite on the R1.

It's getting hard to continue to hold out for a DW Valor with some of the new 1911's of recent years...

I've never shot the enhanced model but have had a few outings with the regular R1. I read alot of complaints about the Remington 1911's and don't see what all the fuss is about. The example I've had the chance to shoot and thoroughly examine was well made, reliable and accurate. I'm not a big 1911 guy, I've owned a couple that were not so great but have one on my short list in the range gun category. Along with the Ruger SR1911, the R1 is pretty high up on the list of potential purchases.

Not the Enhanced but my R1s is a totally reliable and accurate pistol. For the price range it is a really good value....and made in USA.

I bought an R1 Enhanced a few years ago (first year they were out IIRC). I shot it extensively for about 6 months. It ran like a top and was accurate as well. Now, I barely ever take it out of the safe and I don't know why.

It is competing for range time with an older SA 1911A1, a Colt Commander reworked by Novak, a Colt Officers worked by Richard Fletcher, and the most recent addition a Sig Scorpion TB.

I have no complaints whatsoever about the R1 E. But its just not as fun to shoot as the others. It is a pedestrian among runners. Kind of meh.
