After last year my wife wants a new rifle. She Had been shooting a 243 but wants a larger cal and a AR. So after many trips to gun shops all over texas/ok, Shooting different cal's and handling many different ones she has decided on the Remington R15 in 30AR. She is just like me. Loving stuff that's different and out of the norm. One of my regular shops i frequent can get one ordered and we can have it out the door for 930.

My reason for the thread is to see what the guys that have and shoot the 30ar round think about it? I personally haven't shot the round, But my wife has. I'm not consirned with the cost of ammo. As i reload. So whats your thoughts?

Longdayjake, Why do you say this? My Wife has shot several with great results.

pwrstrkd, Nope. And that's from a guy that builds 7.3's for a living. Just costs to much to make them fast. While DP is a great brand tuner for a 7.3 the 120 setting falls off. Your actually making more smoke then power at that setting. Gotta have more air when you introduce that much fuel.

Sorry getting my own thread off topic haha

Very true, as the black cloud behind forms when i take off....waste of fuel but its fun;) Next is a cummins true diesel. Sorry to make thread off topic

I have seen these but don't know much about them. One question I would like to add to the thread is how much different is it from the 7.62x39mm?

MOshooter65202, That artical had a great point. The cost of the r25 is alot more. The R-15 Will cost me 930 OTD. While the R25 is right at 1300 OTD that's a large difference to me.

slammedis I agree the cost between the r15 is quite a bit less compared to a r25 as well as a smaller lighter rifle.
I have a DPMS LR308AP4 carbine I bought 6 years ago when the only choices in ar style 308 was armalite or DPMS,you can still buy DPMS LR308AP4's under a 1000.00 much less than a r25???

IMHO There's not that much difference between the 30 AR and the 7.62x39 to justify the extra cost of the rifle and ammo. I was seriously considering the 30AR but read up on it and looked over reloading data and finally decided to stick with the 7.62x39. The hype over a "more powerful" AR15 round is mostly hot air. The 6mmx45 or 257 Copperhead comes closer to making the AR15 a deer rifle than the .30 caliber choices.

I Understand we could go with a "lighter" AR chambered in 308, But that opens the door to her constant bickering that it kicks to much. I my self have one and she refuses to shoot it do to the recoil. She 'Claims" the 30AR round has less recoil. Like i said i dont know for sure, as i havent shot one.

So how bout a different caliber. You reload so a wildcat could be appealing.

I shoot a 6WOA. Which is a 6.8 SPC necked down to 6mm. Launches 95 Berger VLDs at around 2950 from a mag length 2.26. or you could go a little heavier and shoot 107s at 2700 from mag length. Not bad for an AR-15.

Or there is also the 6AR turbo 40. A little better than the WOA at mag length.

My 12 year old daughter just loves the 6WOA. Recoil is easily managed. And the lighter mass of even the heavy 6mm beats the 30cal stuff.

There is also a fellow making another wildcat called the PDK and I think he has a 7mm version if the 6 and 6.5 don't suit ya. Any way good luck in your choice.
