Remington/NE

For the sole purpose of a night stand gun, I just purchased a Pardner Pump Action, for less than $200. For a gun that won't do much more than sleep next to me, it is quite nice. I will shoot up some skeet loads to brake it in and load her up with OODuck and keep her safe next to me by night. Any one else have one of these?

I bought one as a gift to my brother about 6 months ago. It seemed like a very solid gun for the price and my local dealer...a friend who owns a large gunshop...endorsed it as a great deal. He said he, "had sold a lot of them and hadn't seen any problems or returns". I think I paid $189, so for that money I figured WTH. I did replace the mag follower and spring before gifting the gun because they seemed a little cheap and those are often weak points on foreign guns.

In any case, my brother loves the gun. And I believe most, not all, Remington 870 accessories will fit it.

MAX100 is the guy who probably knows them best.

I have two NEF pump shotguns in the form of the 20 ga, Pardner Compact and a 12 ga. 28" barrel walnut field grade shotgun.

Both are spot on for fit, finish, and quality.

I have been disappointed with the quality gaffs from Remington and Mossberg and the NEF pump, while a clone of the 870, is a quality gun.

Remington owns the company and the pumps ,IMHO, are better made than the 870 Express shotgun.

I'm sure we will fire up the China debate but I just have had enough of the bickering about these fine guns.

I love mine as they feel good when I pull them to my shoulder, even the 20 ga. Compact pulls up nice for a smaller gun and that little jewel belongs to my wife.

Great guns all in all.

Remington, as I understand it, is owned by the Cerebus Group. They in turn bought H&R/NEF and are in control of the operations of H&R/NEF as a subsidiary company.

They closed the Gardner, Mass. facility and layed off folks that built the H&R/NEF shotguns to "streamline" operations for lack of a better term.:(

This is what I remember from the announcement made a while back on the H&R/NEF site.

Remington moved their headquarters to North Carolina and I'm not sure if the Illion ,New York site is still open.

Soo.... all those who are grousing about the Pardner Pumps should air their concerns with Remington as now they are part of who's responsible for importing Chinese parts for construction of the Pardner Pump series shotguns.

I hope I haven't burst anyones bubble with that revelation.

It's ironic that they build the Express to fill the niche of a "price point" shotgun and import parts that make a gun that costs less than an Express and IMHO, is a better shotgun than its' American counterpart.

I base my opinions on my experience of having owned the Express, Wingmaster, Sportsman 48 and 58, and 878 automaster.

The Pardner is well made and should give a good account of itself for my uses.

They are not USA made of chinese parts... They are CHINESE BUILT!:D
And have been since quite some time prior to being bought by cerebus holdings company.
Remington don't own NEF nor vice versa... they are sister companies albeit step-sister companies... Maybe the big sister passes orders from mommy and daddy but still just a sister:D

Well, if what you say is true ,than I stand corrected i.:)

But here at Dicks sporting in beautiful Virginia Beach ,VA.

they are advertised as Remington Pardner Pumps in various forms:eek:

I work and live with guys who shotgun hunt over dogs and they have made comments about trying one out.

Just and aside:

I was skeptical about Chinese SKS rifles when they hit our shores in the mid eighties and only would deal with Russian SKS rifles.

Until I educated myself.

I would jump over ten ar-15s for one rusted bolt ak/ or sk just for sheer reliability and the fact that at combat ranges, are very effective platforms for spittng lead .

Not trying top get off topic but if the manufacturers in China are employing the mindset that was evident in the build quality of their Milspec arms
then it's a good thing for the consumer as they are producing a quality product that will give the end user a reliable gun that won't have to be sent back after opening tha box like some other domestic manufacturers

AFAIK, Hogdogs is correct. NEF simply contracted with Norinco (not 100% sure, but I think that's the Chinese maker in this case) to build a line of pump shotguns for them using the basic 870 design. MAX100 will know more details about these guns. He usually joins any threads about the Pardner Protector and will likely be along here soon.

I have a Hawk 982 12 gauge that is made by Norinco and imported by IAC. I too replaced the spring and follower. I like the fit and finish, and a set of decent ghost ring sights came installed. What sold me was the price and the metal trigger guard. Pretty boss.
