I have the opportunity to buy a Remington Mohawk model 48 20g semi auto.
SN is 588XXXX. My dealer called me and described it to me. He said basically 100% condition but no box or papers. I don't need it, so I'm either looking for a deal or a good investment. He said its on consignment for $300. What say you? How old is this one? I don't know much about these. Thanks.

The Mohawk 48 was made from 1949-60 - Remingtons have a date/letter code stamped into the barrel near the receiver, so it's DOM can be narrowed down further.

AFAIK, $300 is top money for one, and there's just about zero collector/investor interest.

I agree with almost everything said...... except I bought my Mohawk 48 Brand New from Kmart in 1974 and I know they were still in production The model 11-48 was made from 1949 to 1968 there was also a Sportsman-48 that was a 3 shot version of the 11-48 none of them have much collectors value

+1 to jhog1, IIRC, the Mohawk 48 was a non-catalog item and offered at retail stores (Kmart) in the early 70's after the original Model 11-48 and Sportsman 48 were discontinued when the Model 1100 was introduced. Perhaps the Mohawk was issued to reduce Remington's parts inventory. ;)

While it may look somewhat like a Model 1100, remember the Mohawk 48 is a long recoil action and parts for the 11-48 series guns are no longer provided by Remington.

As PetahW said, $300 is top dollar.
