i have a 1937 model 11. remington gave that date from the serial no. im trying to find out its worth. the bueing is great and a few scratches on the stock. the knurling on the forearm is in very good condition and the knurling on the hand grip is the same. any ideas
 
I bought one in VG condition at a gun show last year for $200. I was glad to get a gun of that high quality for that price. If anyone made an identical gun today, with all the hand-fitting that went into a model 11, it'd probably cost at least $2,000.

So right now it's a "smart purchase/dumb sell" kind of situation. Model 11's are the armored tanks of the shotgun world. They hardly ever break and if in good condition, they will do anything today that they would ever do. They will probably never be worth less than what they sell for today which can be either a curse or a blessing, depending on whether you want to buy or sell. But, in this uncertain and usually inflationary world, I would bet on them retaining more value in the coming years than the 200 greenbacks you spend for one today will. And, bottom line, you just know they will be worth their weight in gold one day. How long that will take is anyones guess, but the oldest Model 11's will turn 100 years old in 2004. That's antique territory. When that happens I expect Model 11's that are still in original condition, like mine is, to become sought after "collectibles" because the antique world prizes quality next to rarity.
