Remington Model 8-A Sights

I have a Model 8-A that was my Grandfather's gun. It appears to be in good shape, although I have not fired it yet. I only have a box of very old Peters ammo, which I am afraid to shoot. I plan on getting some new ammo soon and firing it. Also, thanks for the info posted so far, especially about the firing pins and possible slam firings.

The only problem I can see with this gun is the rear sight. My Grandfather was a master at "re-engineering" things and I suspect that he broke the sight and rather than replacing it, he soldered it back together. I would have to assume that he used original parts for this "custom" sight, but after spending hours on the web looking at pictures of similar guns, I'm not sure that he did.

The sights that I have seen on the web don't appear to have the same base as this one, but I have to admit that it's hard to get close-ups of just the rear sights. I would appreciate any information that you can provide and possibly a source for a replacement part.

Also, does anyone know where I can download an assembly/disassembly manual for the model. I've cleaned it as much as I can without taking it apart and I understand they can be difficult to put back together.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.
