Remington model 8 300 Savage

I have a Remington model 8 300 Savage, serial # 599XX.

The model 81 replaced the model 8 in 1938. The model 81 300 Savage wasn't produced until 1940.

According to Remington, the serial #, 599XX was produced in 1929.

The barrel is marked with the serial # and 300 Savage. The receiver is marked with model 8 the same serial #.
Can anyone give me any information that might help me untangle this conundrum.

I think you missed the point. I know Remington started making a Model 81 300 Savage in 1940.

What I have is a Model 8 300 Savage, with a serial # 599XX. Remington says that serial # was produced in 1929, but they also state that NO 300 Savages were produced before 1940.

How can I have a 1929 Model 8 300 Savage when they only produced
a Model 81 300 Savage from 1940 on.

Shooter - It's hard to find two model 8' or 81's that are alike. The old Remington factory hands just put them together with parts that were made at various times. Looks like yours was a strange mix of 8 and 81 parts. The place were the Remington experts hang out is >www.remingtonsociety.com<.

good luck, cs :D
