I'm having a very hard time locating any info re: disassembly, function, etc of the venerable old 1889 Remington SxS hammer guns. I have a pretty extensive library of firearm references and maintenance books and periodicals but nothing really on the '89. FAL308 posted some links to parts dealers carrying some parts but I've been to those sites also and they have no drawings, data, etc. My '89 is in good condition and operational, but I have a few questions about it and would like to clean it out thoroughly and have a bit of a guide to disassembly. A small piece of metal fell out of the latch/hinge area and I would really like to double check that all the parts in that area are intact.
Also, I've noted that the extractor only extends when the hammers are in the cocked position and the action opened. I wondered if that was correct and intended to help protect the firing pins.
Any info, advice, exploded drawings, etc greatly appreciated, Greg
