Remington Model 1889 in 10 gauge

I have a Remington Model 1889 in 10 gauge that I would like to put back into use. It is a 10 gauge 2-7/8" chambers with 30" barrels. Any suggestions on where to start handloading for this vintage shotgun/cartridge? It is a grade 1 barrel (also known as 'decarbonized' steel). I'm pretty sure that ammo for this gauge in the late 19th century used a roll crimp.

First, I implore you to get a qualified opinion from a good smith on the feasibility and safety of shooting this.

Second, BPI has loading info for the old 2 7/8" 10 gauge and components. Polywad carries ammo.

MEC will set up any of their presses for a 2 7/8" 10 gauge shell.

IF this old timer can be shot, please do so.
