Remington model 1100 operating lever coming out

Hi Guys!
What would be the cause of the operating lever sometimes coming out in recoil and cycling?

This is an older gun with lots of skeet and trap shooting in its history.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Model 1100 operating handle problem

Many thanks g.willikers!

I have actually disaasembled my 1100 as shown in the video, but I wasn't exactly sure about the ball detent and spring situation that keeps the operating handle in place.

I'm supposing the ball has developed a flat spot over the years, or maybe the spring has lost some tension.

I probably should order replacements if they're available.

Thanks again for the swift reply!

It's a pleasure talking with folks with savvy!

I'm a retired prototype machinist so I'm not afraid to go the rest of the way to check everything out.
I just thought maybe there was some simpler solution.

This is a swell site, wish I had joined earlier!

They made those two different ways. One had a spring loaded plunger behind the handle and the other had a ball under it instead. The later replacement handles have provision for both and are interchangeable. Be sure you don't have an early handle that isn't right for your action bar.

Check the detent spring for being dirty, or weak. Those detent balls are hardened, so I would look at the spring first. Second, check to make sure the detent in the handle isn't wallowed out, and not allowing the ball to hold it tight enough.
