Remington Model 11 or Sportsman

I have been searching for a new / used butt stock for my shotgun. How can I tell if it's a type I,II or III ? I know by the ser. no. it was made in 1940 and it has the US Armament symbol on the receiver and the barrel.

Try this.

Available in type 1, 2 and 3. Type 1 is serial number 1-180,000; Type 2 is 180,001-380,000; Type 3 is 380,001+. The length of the top and bottom tang can also determine the type. Type 1-top tang 3 5/8" bottom tang 3 1/16", Type 2 top tang 3 5/8" bottom tang 3 1/4" and Type 3 top tang 3 3/8" bottom tang 3". Manufactured by Fajen, 90% shaped and fully inlet.

I though Tang was that orange drink the astronauts drank.

If it has the number "8" stamped on it (the buttstock, that is), it was made by a gent named Leon Mohall.

Remingtons M-11 was one great shotgun.
