My son has a shotgun which belonged to his grandfather. My wife believes thatit originally belinged to HER grandfather.
It could be a Remington M11. It is 20 ga with an adjustable choke. The barrell is 27 1/4 including the choke. On the barrell it has "Remington Arms Co Inc Ilion N.Y. Made in USA. Brownings US Pats 689,283-710,094-730,870-812,326 AlsoPat No1,931262" and "20 GA. for 2 3/4 or shorter shells" On the side of the bolt ir has "The Sportsman" The SN is
110X726.
Is it an M11? How old is it ? Is it worth anything?

Your shotgun could very well be a Remington Model 11. There was a "Sportsman" model, made under the Browning Pat, issued in the gauge you have specified. It was mfg'd from 1931 to 1949. The value would depend on several things. Plain BBl, solid rib or vetn rib. The values run from arond $470.00 Vent Rib to $220,00. The Solid rib $$400.00 to $150.00 and the plain barrel $325.00 to $120.00 depending upon condition.

These values were taken from an early 1990 book and the values may have increased somewhat from these.

Thank you. I have just found a mention in the Jan 2000 Shooting Times which says Remington made them from 1905 until 1948 and made over 850,000. This one has no rib.

You are correct about mfg year, however, this particular model, "The Sportsman" was mf'd from1931-1949. The article refers to the Model 11 in general and not specifically the Sportsman>
