Remington is gone

I was using my Remington 700 Buckmasters .270 and the thing kept jamming when loading the magazine. Had to open the floor plate and start over twice making tons of noise in my blind.

It is gone (am using my .300 Win Mag Ruger 77 again) and traded the 700 for a CVA Optima muzzleloader so I can hunt the 10 day muzzleloader season following the one week gun season. Starts Monday but I'm going to wait for the 10-12 monster bucks on our land to settle down. Bowhunters saw them all around my stand a week before gun season but once the shooting starts they disappear. They're still on the land since none of the neighbors got one.

700 was okay but just didn't feel "right" like my trusty old 77 Ruger. I shot a doe with the Ruger yesterday. Had to KILL something!

I've had that problem with my 223. I am just careful to place them in right. I certainly wouldn't sell it for that reason, but that's me.
 
My 700 ADL in .308 is more difficult to load than my .270 Mossberg ATR 100 was both blind magazines. I attribute that to the fact that my .308 seats the rounds so far behind the ejection/loading port.

Still not a reason for me to be rid of it though.
 
Well, I wanted a muzzleloader and had two rifles so one had to go for me to get the muzzleloader. It was a fine shooting rifle but the Ruger was far better in both quality and grouping.
 
You should have traded the Rem for a Savage, in .270.
I can't seem to make mine jam, I practice when Iget the chance.
 
Warbird, I am sorry to read that you had a bad Remington experience. I would love to see Big Green return to its former glory.

BTW, my Weatherby Vanguard S2 has been functioningflawlessly.

Wasn't too bad of an experience. It was the first time filling the magazine and just had it's own little loading "quirk". Was a decent rifle but just didn't "grow" on me like my trusy old Ruger 77. Used the Ruger to drop a doe at 100 yards. Didn't ruin any meat! (.300 Win Mag). Bullet went right behind left shoulder, blew the lungs up and exited out the neck near the jaw. BIG hole on exit. We had a bad year on our land for bucks.

I bought the muzzleloader (wanted one anyway) to get in on the 10 day extended muzzleloader season after the one week rifle season.
 
I noticed with my 700's, the magazine follower if that's what it's called can be kinda "tippie". With my VLS I called Remington, and they sent me a new one, spring and all. The old one would push the cartridge too hard and would partially pop it out.
 
The spring follower in my magazine was too "stiff" or too "long". It would let you snap all 5 cartridges in (.270) and then wouldn't feed the top one, jamming up to where you had to drop them out the bottom and start over again. Had to load four in the magazine and then slightly push down on the fifth while pushing the bolt forward. If you pushed too hard it would snap into the magazine. Maybe I'm used to the controlled feed on my Ruger 77 Mk II but didn't like it.
